No, it's because they kept meticulous records. The Nazis were milk toast compared to most of history. Their downfall and infamy were the most German thing humanly possible. "We should record all this in ledgers and videotape the mass graves." It's almost comically German of them.

I always wondered about this. Without the mustache and to some extent the hairdo Hitler looked like a very average person. His style though was so unique and infamous that just a vague representation of the mustache is enough for everyone to instantly recognize it. Stalin and Churchill had similar things going on.
Meanwhile leaders like FDR and Tojo/Hirohito had pretty unremarkable looks and are more known by name than physical characteristics.
I wonder if modern politicians generally try to avoid having a "style" to be associated with and that's why they're all so bland. Then you have bizarre looking weirdos like Trump and Boris Johnson that are bringing it back.
