Striving for greatness, innovation, art, philosophy, fighting for causes, caring trying. The great accomplishments of man were placed at the center of human existence all my life in school, society, media, etc.

Imagine mfw I turn 30 and am hit with the brick of realization that all that stuff only carries meaning when attached to the youth and 20s. You look stupid performing "endeavors" after 30. And as you see signs of rapid aging in the mirror, your body a husk of its original true form, it's clear that all there is to do now is try to survive, and maybe make a family or some bs. Sit down either way.

In a greater cosmic sense, all notions of important strides/meaning were really just our cognitive attempt to deny impending death. It's just when you're young you're still able to fool yourself that anything you do or create has timelessness, some permanence. AND you still look good doing it.

A lot of stuff that you cared about when you were young could stop mattering when you're old. Not always, but probably. Your dreams, your hobbies, your purpose, all these can change with age. Not much you can do about it except be open to God's guidance on what to do next.

I'm 43M, never dated or even approached women in my life, for various reasons (chiefly I am ugly).

I used to (past tense) want a relationship, but that was before I was told again, and again how much work they are, how hard it is and honestly....I saw and heard alot of really bitter people talking about or to me about thier experiences.

At my age I'm completely disillusioned with women, relationships, and everything to do with it.

I dont know about any loneliness epidemic, and I dont care either, my own survival comes first, and in today's world it's not getting any easier.

I'm glad I realized everything was pointless when I was in my early 20s, not gonna hit me so hard when I'm 30. But life goes on, might as well enjoy the show

It's pointless, but if anything carries any meaning it's only gonna be in your 20s.
I suppose in a globalized world, where labor will be taken care of by bots, where wisdom is no longer sought or needed, and where aesthetics is everything, the only thing that will matter is being young, and doing whatever you do. Anybody above that will be completely discardable. Pick anything out of the bag to do l, while you still can

I feel the same in 35 as I felt in 18, aside of knee clicks. My gf is young. I've got the money and a lot of free time.
