md5: af6620e58eac4eb728043c65259d70d7🔍
>On July 1, 2025, a massive interstellar object—designated 3I/ATLAS—was detected entering the solar system. Estimated at ~20 km in diameter and traveling at ~70 km/s, it is larger, faster, and darker than any interstellar object previously observed. It exhibits no cometary outgassing, no tail, and no signs of natural volatility despite its size and trajectory.

>More alarmingly, its approach geometry is nearly retrograde and aligned closely with the ecliptic, a highly unusual configuration that allows it to pass near Venus, Mars, and Jupiter in succession—an alignment with an extraordinarily low probability if the trajectory were natural. Of greatest concern is its upcoming perihelion on 29 October 2025, during which it will pass directly behind the Sun from Earth’s point of view, rendering it unobservable for several days. If one were to design an ideal delivery profile for a kinetic planetary strike—a stealth approach, masked course change, and terminal velocity impact—this is the maneuver window one would use.

>In other words:

>You could not design a better kill shot for Earth if you tried.

>Enter the system on a natural-looking trajectory,

>Perform a stealth maneuver during solar occultation,

>Redirect onto a planetary intercept course,

>Deliver extinction-level energy with minimal warning,

>And leave no trace of intelligent origin.

>We do not claim 3I/ATLAS is artificial. But we assert that, if it were, its behavior to date would be indistinguishable from a deliberately engineered extinction-level delivery system. Until post-perihelion tracking confirms a benign trajectory, we cannot exclude the possibility that this object constitutes the most dangerous threat humanity has ever observed.

Also by the way, 3I/ATLAS's trajectory does not intercept Earth. It will pass between Mars and Earth when the two are separated by about 2AU, meaning it would have to undergo catastrophic deceleration (ie, explode and fly apart), to even approach becoming a threat.

You aren't getting it. This isn't corny sci-fi where they come in a ship and invade us.

The article isn't saying this is a ship. They aren't even saying its a real threat unless you read between the lines.

There are no aliens, there is no invasion. Just a 20km chunk of low visibility rock with some propulsion strapped to it. Its a kinetic weapon.

>>511403788
>RKT aimed straight at the planet
Wrong.
This trajectory is a more optimal killshot than a direct strike because it maximizes stealth and efficiency. Approaching on a natural-looking, retrograde path, the object arouses minimal suspicion until it disappears behind the Sun, creating a perfect window for an unobservable course correction. A reverse Solar Oberth maneuver at perihelion allows it to shift onto an Earth-impact trajectory with minimal energy, arriving faster and harder than a direct interstellar shot while giving Earth little or no time to respond. By the time the new trajectory is detected, it’s too late to deflect, intercept, or even meaningfully prepare.

>>511403937
Who? The scientists aren't even making claims. They are acting like this is a thought experiment, while putting all the actual data out there for people to come to their own conclusions.
It would almost be less worrying if they were being actually alarmist.

It actually does seem to showing some outgassing, but even that's unusual. The amount of outgassing is light enough that is possible that it's only dust being kicked off the object and not a whole lot of gas. Also, the tail, such as it is at this point, seems to be pointing at the sun instead of away from it. That is highly unusual. Cometary tails almost always point away from the sun because the solar wind pushes the gas dust boiled off the comet, and of course the solar wind travels away from the sun. Duh.

It's still probably a natural object, but it is a very, very unusual object. Worth keeping an eye on. Keep your mind open.

Yes, it isn't on a trajectory towards Earth. Nobody said it is. What they have said is that the point at which a object with propulsion would perform the course-correction towards earth will be directly behind the Sun and unobservable to us. By the time we know whether it is a harmless, suspiciously stealthy, possibly propelled, incredibly weird interstellar object, or a weapon that will destroy human civilization, we will only have 10 days left to do anything about it.

another resolution to the Fermi paradox is that intelligent life intentionally keeps itself hidden in order to keep itself safe. I don't think this is anything more than a rock, but assuming this life form is intelligent enough, yes it's perfectly conceivable to send a probe out, knowing full well that we can't detect that it is a probe. humans have done this to each other forever.

This is where you are wrong. Aliens (or whatever you want to call it) are attacking us for either two reasons:
1. To get rid of niggers and jews, so Aryans can prosper again
Or
2. To get rid of Aryans, because if they don't, Aryan might get to a point where Jews use Aryan tech to spread niggers and Jewish nonsense in to other solar systems.

Aliens are acting in self-defense, a precaution, which is totally reasonable. Nobody needs violent niggers and parasitic jews.

Yeah, exactly.. current. ASI is the only way for humanity to unlock further mysteries of our universe so we can achieve efficient and fast space drive. By then I’m sure we have at the very least have developed some kind of drive that will allow us to navigate our solar system and become interplanetary though travel would still take months. But warp is something unachievable without ASI.

Whichever paranoid superpredator species currently controls local space. Calculation on that - our radio bubble is 200 light years diameter. The kill vehicle launch star must be well within that space. It may have been pre-built but even 50% speed of light cruise is very difficult, the launch star is within 40 light years also allowing for speed up then slow down to obfuscate the attack/finesse Solar system slingshot terminal accuracy.

By this logic paranoid species must have installed defensive interstellar build and launch complexes spaced 40 light years apart. I would have thought such a network would be easier to do local to each star system although it may be more refined and they use a back scratch technique - so there is a hidden local complex in our planetary system merely watching that signals response early, monitors for reality of threat and directs physical judgement at the last moment while giving nothing away. Like tanks hosing enemy infantry off each other with machine guns.

That's pretty much the whole premise of dark forest theory. Each species having designated kill ships floating around all over space, like we have nuclear subs floating around the oceans, with the sole purpose of detecting other species and striking as soon as they discover anything. If you consider that the earliest detectable broadcasts from earth were made in the early 1900s, then it seems reasonable that the asteroid was launched from within the Oort cloud.

Going by the arbitrary number of >>511408764, there are about 60 star systems within 40 lightyears of Earth. If an alien ship had designating kill vehicle monitoring these 60 systems (or any other 60-ish star system within a 40 lightyear radius), then they would have detected Earth's first broadcasts somewhere in the 40s/50s, and traveling at 50% lightspeed would have arrived at our star system right around now. From there they just have to launch an asteroid from the Oort cloud towards us

With this>>511408764 the dominant species will have installations both at any life candidate planet and also at various other (maybe all) carefully planetary systems adjudged not possible to build life. At those systems it builds kill vehicles. On the life planets it monitors for threats. Then if there is a threat or even an impending threat (I'm talking thousands of years here the alien monitoring systems will be in place on the spacefarer candidate planet) they can cross communicate. This way there is less danger of being surprised and overcome by a rapidly developing civilization who spots a kill vehicle being hastily prepared in the equivalent of their Oort cloud and destroys it and any further last ditch strike efforts before beginning galactic war

Some hypotheses of the top of my head:
1) Less likely to be perceived as a threat (look at all the nothingburger anons in the thread) until it's too late
2) Less likely to leave a signature that could be detected by other hostile species and tracked back to the one that destroyed us
3) Not worth the cost against a sub Type-I species that could be destroyed by gently pushing an asteroid

we wouldn't do anything without observing/probing another civ first. no tech (even theoretical) can spy millions of light years away with any great detail. a probe would be the only option to know.

that said, "wiping out" another planet or species wouldn't be worth it when, if we were much more technology advanced than them, we could enslave them or take over their planet for resources.

Yes, dark forest theory starts from the assumptions that 1) technological progress is exponential, and 2) you can never be certain of another species' motives. Even if they are friendly at first, you can't guarantee they will stay friendly. You then get a prisoner's dilemma where the best choice is always to wipe out the other species, and to do it as quickly as possible. The logical result from this is that you have to simultaneously develop a method of detecting and taking out other species, and hide your own presence to the best of your abilities (hence an answer to the Fermi paradox)

I guess, it's just pointing out that it's on a perfect approach to visit 3 different planets AND to approach Earth within 2 months after starting to change course in what is for us a blind spot. Furthermore it eneteres our solar system from a relatively bright section of the galaxy, making us detect the object too late for an early interception. It's all very coincidental, and the only thing we can do is keep monitoring it for non-gravitational acceleration

They don't have tsar bombas. They were too impractical to use and overkill anyway, so they never made more. Also you'd need at least dozens of tsar bombas to even stand a chance of fracturing an object of that size. That being said, I wonder how big of a nuke we could make if our goal was to get the highest yield possible

What makes you think they need to be covert?
If your scenario comes true, there's nothing we can do about it if they show up out of nowhere from behind the moon and point their big space gun at us.
You're assuming that beings which CAN do this and get away with it are having to worry about a second interstellar civilisation that can see what they're doing... as if they're not going to detect the big rock's orbital manoeuvre with their listening posts anyway.
Beings that powerful have nothing to worry about. They can blow us up in our face or from 2 systems away, it won't make a difference.

The ONLY difference is that you get to scare people with it if the alleged aliens try stealth genocide instead of "honey I'm home" genocide. They won't give a fuck about that.

The work must start now. Why taking any chance ? We need at least 3 FH (for redundancy) armed with a non limited version of the tsar bomba. Non limited version is 2x as powerful as the original tsar bomba. The object can be disintegrated by the fireball alone. As long as it's not able to maneuver or destroy the FH upper stage at a distance.

They do have them. They are meant for deployment in their Poseidon hyper-tsunami weapons to wipe out the UK and the coasts of the US. The original tsar bomba design was capable of 100MT output, but they toned it back for the test. The rumor is that they have 300MT capability for Poseidon now. The cope is that it is a 3MT device for taking out individual cities.

Lmao, this retarded opinion always gets me. Let me know how a species evolves to an intelligent stage and builds an advanced civilization without cooperation and respect for environment. It's impossible because such species would destroy itself one way or another. Also, hypothetically, if there was an advanced civilization which could build such interstellar weapons, they'd know for 100 % that we'd never pose any threat to them since they're so much ahead of us so destroying us would be pointless.

Silly Dark Forest assumptions. Would only work under the conditions that civilizations could be easily spotted or that it would be generally easy to "see" (so ... some kind of magical interstellar communication) a planetary scale event. Which sounds like a lot of bullshit. Anyway, then you would wanna make the disaster look as natural as possible to any observers, otherwise you have just revealed your presence and might be targeted next.

Would still need to bother with that damn light speed limit then. Yes, might have asked for permission to fire a few thousand years ago and now got its weapons free signal but come on ... that is idiotically inefficient and unreliable unless you got some instant comms. So my statement holds, you would need some "magical" tech for this. Better alternative would be an autonomous observer, some Von Neumann ... but that would entirely shift the game here. Hiding would be pointless, the damn things WILL find you given time. So the game would not be to hide but to rush to interplanetary so it becomes unfeasible to be taken out in one single surprise strike. Which is the same game as trying to avoid being wiped out by some stray piece of dumb debris because we bloody failed to get the species into shape for the next step ...

Light speed is a critical part of the puzzle. There needs to be redundant interstellar deployment and precaution against rogue or turned forces (gone injun, AoE priests etc.), -objective review is going to cost distance and time. It can be minimized but not eliminated - its multiple light years between systems - in other words years.

THERE IS CURRENTLY NOTHING TO SUGGEST WE HAVE A PROBLEM.
If this changes I will let you know. But you unironically all have nothing to worry about right now.

The original tweet about ATLAS was intended as a joke. He was joking.
There IS still a small chance that this is extra terrestrial in origin, but at this stage there has been NOTHING NEW to suggest that’s the case.

This is true
> it will pass directly behind the Sun from Earth’s point of view, rendering it unobservable for several days. If one were to design an ideal delivery profile for a kinetic planetary strike—a stealth approach, masked course change, and terminal velocity impact—this is the maneuver window one would use.
This is pure speculation, evidence less and extremely far fetched and low likelihood, to be frank.
If aliens wanted to wipe us out they’d do it with a 10000trillion tetra watt laser travelling at the speed of light and wouldn’t need to fuck around with hidden stealth trajectory changes behind the sun

These articles are hyperbole

The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs was going at 20km/s.
If the aliens wanted to kill humans on the low they would not do it like this. They’d wipe us out with a pathogen released into the atmosphere that you wouldn’t even see and it would leave everything else in tact.

Interesting if you look at it from an electric universe perspective

Comets have two tails the big one that points away from the sun is charged particles, the charge is imparted by the potential difference with the Sun

If the potential difference is opposite to comets from within the solar system the tail would do the opposite

That is fucking retarded. To do that they would need to first send a probe to earth, hope it doesn't get spotted, abduct a live human to study it, then design a brand new illness that's just lethal enough to kill everyone but not quite lethal enough to kill everyone it infects before it can spread, and then hope it does the job and doesn't get noticed too soon so we can develop a cure or even develop natural immunity. That's assuming the aliens even understand biology, they might just as well be robots or something. Asteroid is far cleaner, and it's not like any observer could tell it was nudged slightly off course after it hits.

Likely. Would ofc take giving it a good shove unless is already heading somehow in the desired direction. Very doubtful anything out there is "stationary", so either pick one incoming from highly elliptic or lucky interstellar debris. Only argument left then for trickshot would be warning time. Whoops! Course correct! Trick shot is trickier to intercept.

>>511419705

>coughChixculubcough

Heh. Would take someone damn xenophobic. Not outside the realm of possible, might make no difference compared to nosy Von Neumann ... kinda same dynamics. Might just catch us still gravity welled or not. Same as unlucky chunk of rock (again).

>>511420111

Think it is doable. Easier access to orbit would be first stepping stone. Make LEO something to casually go to ... rest follows. Pioneer colony experiment could be a hurdle, especially now that automation becomes more feasible (which howevs would greatly help with an off world industrial basis) ... find people adventurous enough to take the early phase hardship? Not implausible, worst case (bit of a joke) we gotta approach this the same way as we did with Australia.

>>511421353

Jup, and ruling out FTL or some freak tech like sending morse through wormholes ... that would invalidate the whole Dark Forest approach. Instead you would want to send out probes with strong comm lasers as an early warning grid asap (with dual purpose of recon / research). Would have years in advance warning if anything shady lurks out there (even if it can go up to good fraction of c in case it even bothers coming our way).

Consider the costs-benefit ratio.
An interstellar flotilla, geared and trained for invasions and orbital bombardments, over the course of millennia, or a few self-replicating termination drones sent out to seed across the cosmos, and dispatch unobtrusive bankshots in to any noisy planets.
Given the nature of things, even discounting the Dark Forest hypothesis, I would bet on the latter as a matter of course.

Aerobic aids makes x1000 more sense from a resource harvesting perspective than senselessly destroying entire planets just because you can

If you were a space faring planet conquering advanced alien why the fuck would you just randomly blow up the whole place
Thatd be like if you nuked gaza
But you don’t nuke gaza because you want to build there don’t you
You want the resources
You know you have to keep it in tact

How does a (massive) non nuclear explosion destroy the natural resources, other than large (hostile) animal life?

It's not about resources you total spastic. It's about preventing any upstart from ever reaching your level of tech and becoming a potential threat. Squash them while they are weak. Or worse, draw attention from more powerful foes that could wipe you out.
>but le technology hurr durr durr
Consider how much more advanced we are than viruses and bacteria, yet they can still harm us and we are putting considerable effort into pre-emptively neutralizing them. At least read the actual theory before you go off strawmanning:

A threat to your resources.

An advanced industrialised technologically superior race of organisms is not going to fucking destroy the entire planet without at least harvesting our precious metals first
They’d take something first
It’s a big 4.5 billion year old rock and you don’t think they’d even take a single thing before nuking the whole thing?
