Small bit of background: Dentist put in a filling 3 weeks ago which popped out after a week. He told me to come back to refill.

He never told me, but the second time he used amalgam. The filling felt "frayed" when my tongue touched it and for hours after I kept spitting bits of amalgam out of my mouth. I went back to him and he gave out to me for biting down (which I didn't do, and he didn't tell me not to do) and poked around and said it was fine. 3.5 hours later (he told me not to eat for 2 hours) I had some soft food and afterwards realised that the filling was gone and I swallowed most of it.

I have a weird feeling in my throat and nose.

I rang 111 (I'm using NHS in the UK) and they did show some concern but a retarded doctor eventually rang me back and told me everything was fine ("They wouldn't use amalgam if it wasn't safe")

Is my health fucked? What should I do now?

btw the amalgam filling was placed yesterday and I lost it 3.5 hours later

Drink a lot of milk. It milk protein will bind to mercury, and you will absorb less of it. After few days, you will poop it out.

Tricky part is that now that dental filling is in stomach acid, which is waaaay more reactive environment than a mouth.

Probably, issue was partially caused by upgraded recipe, with reduced levels of mercury. And it was "lean", thus had issues with hardening. Had somehow similar effect once (amalgam is still popular here), that there was like "grainy texture". But issue resolved by itself few weeks later.

In short, do not overthink. Drink a lot of milk for a week.

Metallic mercury is not that dangerous. And obviously the amalgams used for fillings are not very dangerous either. If they were, they wouldn’t put em in people’s mouths. Your body can’t really absorb it.

The danger is in the vapor and in organic compounds containing mercury.

UV hardening (composite) fillers contract by about 8%, when hardens. It creates internal stress. And that plastic can crack under load. That is one of reasons why in some countries (especially eastern european shitholes), amalgalm fillings are still popular. As they can take way more load before breaking. Well, normally.
There are also chance to use ceramic (porcelan or zirconia) "crown", which will be placed over existing teeth. But it is more expensive, and usually are done to teeth with way bigger damage. Difference is like 40 eur for amalgam, vs 600 eur zirconia "crown".

But about mercury, its vapor is most toxic. Luckily you are not breathing come fumes from broken CFL lamps. From dental fillings, there are way less. There still are, but if compare with other sources, not much.

It's always dangerous, a Hg is the only metal that continually vapourizes at STP. Mercury vapour is absolutely dangerous and even in subclinical, chronic doses , assuredly detrimental

Use toothpaste with hydroxynanoappetite, or maybe it was just hydroxyappetite. It will bind to the minerals in the teeth and actually regrow the enamel instead of just "hardening(?)" it like flouride does.

As far as "is my health fucked", I wouldn't bother asking this question. It's obviously preferable that this didn't happen, but it did, and there's nothing you can do about it.
If I'm reading the story properly, it's too late to tell you to attempt to vomit it out, and if you shat it out it's out and if you didn't it absorbed. Whatever will be the consequences of this, if any, are already in place.

There wont be much, but if you are worried you can always ask your doctor for a blood mercury test, though again, it probably wont be necessary. People live their whole lives with many fillings and dont ever have that problem.

These have fallen out of favor about a decade or so ago right? I got a dentist that put one in me and I was pissed when they were done.
