I'd say it fell off around 2008 or so. That Cloverfield parody was painfully unfunny. It's been mostly misses since then and the humor gradually lost it's edge.
Matt and Trey also started prioritizing making some statement on current events rather than putting the absurdist humor first.
South Park fans are also in denial that it fell off along with Family Guy and The Simpsons.
