It became increasingly clear over time that U.S. support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia may have served a broader strategic purpose beyond simply defending Ukrainian sovereignty. By drawing Russia into a prolonged and resource-draining war, Washington effectively limited Moscow’s ability to project power elsewhere particularly in the Middle East.

This geopolitical distraction coincided with intensified U.S. and Israeli operations in Syria, suggesting a possible calculated effort to weaken Russian influence in the region. In this light, the Ukraine conflict could be seen as a masterstroke of strategic diversion, leaving Russia overextended while enabling the U.S. and Israel to solidify their position i

TLDR; us and Russia gave Putin the biggest L in his entire career. USA and Israel bogged Russia down in a quagmire and sacked Syria as a result. Outsmarting Putin in the process

Truly a masterstroke. All it cost was the EU's industry, whose market share is instead being taken over by China. A small price to pay to fuck over Assad.

The likely reason Assad was ousted was because Iran dropped its support. Assad's only value to Iran was to secure a supply line to Hezbollah. Events after October 2023 made it became apparent that Hezbollah's rockets were mostly useless in the face of modern Israeli military technology, and so there was no reason for Iran to continue spending billions and billions on propping up Assad. Jolani realized this, which is why he made his move. Note that neither Iran nor the Iraqi PMF did anything to help Assad; the PMF drove right up to the border and stopped there. Note also that the Syrian army folded immediately like the Afghan army in 2021, indicating that Assad and other senior Syrian officials were busy packing their bags rather than organizing resistance, which is because they realized the game was up and there was no point in trying to resist.

To be fair, Southeastern Ukraine is a far better prize than most unruly Middle Eastern shitholes.

Truly a masterstroke. All it cost was a large chunk of the EU's industry, whose market share is instead being taken over by China. A small price to pay to fuck over Assad.

The likely reason Assad was ousted was because Iran dropped its support. Assad's only value to Iran was to secure a supply line to Hezbollah. Events after October 2023 made it apparent that Hezbollah's rockets were mostly useless in the face of new Israeli military technology, and so there was no reason for Iran to continue spending billions and billions on propping up Assad. Furthermore, the outcome of the "True Promise" operations gave Iran reason to believe that Iran's own long range missile arsenal had now become sufficiently large and advanced that Iran no longer needed to rely on Hezbollah for deterrence. Indeed, that US and Israeli leaders during the attack on Iran went from talking about "unconditional surrender" and "regime change" to backing off just a few days later seems to have proved this assessment correct.

Jolani probably realized this, which is why he made his move. Note that neither Iran nor the Iraqi PMF did anything to help Assad; PMF troops drove right up to the border and stopped there. Note also that the Syrian army folded immediately with minimal resistance like the Afghan army in 2021, indicating that Assad and other senior Syrian officials were busy packing their bags rather than organizing resistance, which is because they realized the game was up and there was no point in trying to resist.

And a few hundred billions' worth of aid to Ukraine, of course. But who's counting, anyway. That's basically pocket change.

There was an Iranian MP who said Iran had spent about $30 billion on Syria since 2011. That amount of money could probably have paid for 30,000 long range missiles plus extensive tunnel complexes to store them in.

I'll do you one better: this whole Ukrainian clusterfuck started when Russia cockblocked US in Syria in 2012 for the first time, and I can bet everything against a dead pig that even US hadn't expected it to end up larger than a small "fuck you" move, like later Belarus and Kazakhstan mutinies. No one in the world had expected hohols to be that retarded, and even now US doesn't know what the fuck to do with them.
