Cars represent freedom in a country too big to walk in. Meanwhile, no rational person wants to be forced to carry their groceries 4 blocks in the snow if there are other options.

In my area, if you work you can take the bus, but that bus stops every 1/2 mile and you arrive at your destination 2 hours after you leave. If you drive, you can be from door to destination in 30 minutes.

I once paid like 50 dollar for a 15m Uber, they are not cheap here especially during rush hour. If you always travel with public transport it is no extra cost.

Transit is always at least 3x slower than driving, though. You can fantasize about "traffic" all you want but in reality a car is always faster.

My commute is 30 minutes, if I took transit it would be an hour and a half at best, more often two hours or more.

In small white towns, public transport isnt needed.
