I had an ambulance show up last year, and the paramedics were very good. They wanted to transport me for observation at the hospital. I asked them if I would be charged and how much and they literally told me they're not allowed to answer that question. I declined.

I'm a paramedic in Florida. It's more so that the billing system is just very complicated based on services rendered and mileage applied. It's nearly impossible to accurately provide a patient with an estimate in the short time that we're with them considering we obviously have more pressing matters at hand (emergent medical care). I can positively tell you though that no ambulance service in the country can take you against your will if you have the capacity to make medical decisions for your self, and if they do you will win the law suit. A co-worker of mine recently got fucked by doing this and the patient sued the county for a ton of money.
