correct
anyone who points to 1984 is outing themselves as having only read that one book (or, more likely, not even that book)
modern day is more a mix of brave new world and 451, and that's just picking from some of the most popular and well-known dystopia novels

There's a loose caste system also based off government welfare. 40% of blacks are on food stamps and a greater percentage are on other pointless programs. Jews can get zero interest bank loans.

its been a while since i read any of these books so i cant remember which was which, but i think you probably could find stuff in all of them that could relate to the present .

Well you do have neighbors, even your own kids, reporting you to the authories for anything suspicious in that book. It has happened before obviously and today it's just called doxxing. Orwell also predicted a 'screen' in every room that spits out propaganda daily. Main character works as a history eraser. World today is more or less a combination of Brave New World and 1984. Didn't read Fahrenheit 451 yet.

I mostly agree but there are elements of 1984 in the modern world. Memoryholing is a good example. And two minutes of hate is very similar to the sensationalist news that stokes hatred against Trump or Nazis or whatever is the latest punching bag. Also governments using euphemistic language to mask what they actually do, just like the Ministry of Truth.

of course. the concept of "newspeak" being used to change how you think about things is very relevant, too. not just pronoun stuff but gay terms like "undocumented person"
but even if some parts reflect our reality, the more central pillars of the party (e.g. suppression of sexuality, individuality) are a very different approach than what we see today

I know 451. It's a lazy mash-up of BNW and 1984. It doesn't need inclusion in your metaphor for modern society as BNW already covers it. Nobody's burning books or knowledge. If anything, we are awash with unvetted "knowledge" so everything becomes a flat mash of distraction with lack of discretion or discernment. We are being defeated by what brings us pleasure and nothing else.

451 was very explicit in explaining that the state of society spawned from the bottom up more than from the top down. The descent into constant meaningless consumption of vapid media was a willing decline, not something enforced by the government. People supported the burning of complex literature because they didn't care for it anymore, not because the government coerced them into it.
It's the most prophetic of the classic dystopian novels in my opinion purely for it's parallels to the dominance of shortform media today.
It was more a condemnation of how contemptable the average person is in their complete lack of any innate moral sense that hasn't been imposed upon them.

well yeah those descriptions were meant to be reductive and template-style. compare-and-contrast at a glance
there is a totalitarian government even if the book reveals people wanted it (or at least were complacent) as part of the commentary. 1984 touches on this as well, to a lesser degree. can't recall if bnw did
agreed that this particular element is part of what makes 451 so relevant, though

>or a strict caste system
At some point along the line, the sort of power players that pull the strings in society realized that having strict, well defined separation among the peasants and the aristocracy fails in that it creates a point of focus that can be attacked.
This has given way to a more effective illusion of freedom and order. A person who can't even envision the actual state of things couldn't ever oppose it.
People believe we live in a free society where the common voice dictates the direction of society. Obviously this couldn't be further from the truth. The people on top do as they please with society, and they live lives completely free from the supposedly universal laws that bind the rest of us
