Take Coca-Cola for example. A 2 liter bottle is $3 now, about double what it cost in 2020. So they sell a lot less product but for double the price. In the end, profits still increase because of the much higher price per product and because many fewer workers and plants are needed to produce less volume.
Many companies are following this model now. They sell fewer items but at much increased prices and so they need fewer workers and factory and warehouse space also.
Things are never going back to the pre-2020 ways, and even those times weren't so great.

The problem is that a recession will come with a price tag of around $10 trillion just to stave off a banking collapse.
