>>512023864 (OP)Easiest answer is that there was a time when Americans were as a rule insanely active. Office workers in cities had whole intermural foot ball teams. People actually hiked and worked for a living, too. People lived very active lifestyles because TV and the like hadn't grown to such a level where you could get your dopamine fix sitting on your ass.
So we always ate lots of the kind of foods you're thinking of, but we didn't get fat generally because we were active. Our lifestyles changed but our diet's didn't, simple as.
This is actually why all the people talking shit to people who wanna eat healthier food are retarded.
Like OK, let's all just keep eating Fried Oreos and turn into the Wall-E people.
If you don't work out every day or walk more than a mile a day you shouldn't be consuming more than 1,600 calories as a grown man. That's just the truth.
Also, liquid calories still count. If it's not tea, coffee or water - it has calories. It will make you fat, because you will still feel hungry because there's no protein. So you'll have a massive calorie surplus.
