Generally the world elites in any nation throughout history were very flexible and pragmatic. For them nationalism, religion and other ideologies were just tools of control. Everybody is naturally concerned with their own survival and support things that they think benefit them. This goes for all humans no matter your gender, race or class. The problem is what is good for you individually may not be good for others and vice versa.
