Soviets did basically nothing in WW2. The casualties inflicted on the eastern front were enormous, but about 99% of them were Soviets who were unarmed and forced at gunpoint to line up to pick up the guns off of their dead comrades because their GDP was -2. Being unable to afford guns, they applied zero danger to the Japanese front in China, who had such little pressure on them that they were doing what literally everyone else in Asia had done up until then - occupying China, killing the males, and inseminating a few thousand women. It's actually wild how many countries in Asia have conquered China and dumped a few million loads into it. I suppose Russia never had a go at it yet, which is embarrassing since even India had a turn.

The Japanese emperor surrendered weeks after announcing their plan to "never surrender and withstand US bombardment against Japan while returning fire". The reason was because the US vaporized two cities without taking a single casualty in return, proving how futile it would be to wage war. This was a mercy, as the war they were ready to fight would have set Japan back hundreds of years through starvation and destroyed culture.

The Soviet invasion of Manchuria occured on 9 August 1945 the same day as the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki.
