They have a much higher floor than the third world, but the ceiling is much lower than true first world.
Is this the power of socialism? And if it is, how is the brain drain in Europe not more significant?

Yeah, I mean it's a meme job, but it transcends industries. Europe simply doesn't pay senior employees much more than they do juniors.
In the third world, like in South Africa, the gap between senior and junior is much larger. The same goes for the first world, like the USA.
Why are Europeans okay that their career advancement between 20s and 40s is merely double and not a factor of ten?

In short, different traditions.
In where I live, system is being built that you are replaceable. We have 4 week vacation, and from those, 2 week vacation MUST been taken without interruption. There is double purpose for that:
a) less burnout
b) to test how system works, when that particular worker is unavailable.

If you want to switch jobs, you need to warn employer month ahead, and work that grace period. You can negotiate that you leave existing job earlier, but personally never had such luck. When employee wants to fire you, need to warn month ahead. He can terminate immediately, but then he still will pay that salary for remaining month.

With how USA is set up, they can get WAY higher productivity from their employees. What EU is, is more of stability and resilience.
