I hate to say it but the jeet is correct about this. If someone is in a permanent vegetative state, they're effectively dead. The body may continue to live, but the actual person is gone. Keeping the body "alive" is pretty much just spending a ton of money to desecrate a corpse.

Brain dead doesn't exist and is a made up term. The closest thing to brain death that does exist is when you only have the reptilian brain left and everything else is just gone.
