The professor was female and unmarried or even possibly gay and older, she was focused on the actual history and being steeped in the culture of the time for the films she showcased. Things were definitely not necessarily oriented to western culture but pointing out its influence like a Coca-Cola billboard being in the background of one casually and not as product placement, just an on location shot, was a really early post war one. We also watched some of the pre war stuff that existed but I don't recall what and some propaganda even. It may have actually been seven samurai we watched for a samurai film because of it being remade as a western directly although yojimbo definitely has too.
