>>512186424 (OP) Define home ownership, because I always thought the bank owned your home until you pay off your mortgage. 8% of 30 year olds paying off a mortgage in 2025 is pretty good in my opinion, because houses don't cost 5 grand like they did in the fucking 50's.
>>512186818 >I always thought the bank owned your home until you pay off your mortgage. No you own it, the title is in your name. The home is used as collateral for the loan, if you don't pay, they seize the home to cover the debt.
Baby boomers will live long enough for Gen X and Millenials to live well into current retirement age, but retiring won't even exist by that time.

No. Sure you have to pay a monthly payment, but eventually the payment will stop. With rent it never stops. And if you paid enough or your home increased in value, you can sell the house and get some of the money back or even turn a profit. With rent you'll never get a penny back.

>>512187243 >but that could change at any time Not really, there are like five hundred hoops lenders have to jump through to foreclose on a home and it usually takes years. 99% of the time they will bend over backwards accommodating peoples' inability to pay up to and including giving them full blown loan forbearance for months at a time.

With an arbitrary cutoff of 30 to demonstrate the percentage of people renting from the bank. Raise that to 31 and it might double the number of rentcucks for all we know. There's no source

Gotta say these threads amuse me. Most of the users of Pol are in the basement and come up every time mom yells "dinners ready!" And that attitude shows any time there is a property thread.
