Define home ownership, because I always thought the bank owned your home until you pay off your mortgage. 8% of 30 year olds paying off a mortgage in 2025 is pretty good in my opinion, because houses don't cost 5 grand like they did in the fucking 50's.

No you own it, the title is in your name. The home is used as collateral for the loan, if you don't pay, they seize the home to cover the debt.

Sure you have to pay a monthly payment, but eventually the payment will stop. With rent it never stops.
And if you paid enough or your home increased in value, you can sell the house and get some of the money back or even turn a profit. With rent you'll never get a penny back.
