Basic problem is that young girls are idiots who fall in love with every man who shows affection towards them
This isn't a problem in a rural community where the families all know each other for generations and social pressure (shotgun marriage) can be brought to bear on guys who get girls pregnant
It IS a problem in an urban society where everybody is a stranger and where a guy can easily disappear
Raising the age of consent makes it less likely a girl will be fooled like this, and so makes it less likely her family will be stuck raising some asshole's bastard.
