By other countries standards, american bread is borderline cake. This is why americans are fat and diabetic, even the things you think of as normal food are dessertified. American yogurt is melted ice cream. American cereal is sugar encrusted grains. And so on.
The reason why so many american diets are focused on 'raw foods' is because the only way to avoid the added sugars pumped into everything is to cook from the base ingredients yourself. Anything you buy in a store can't be trusted not to be dumped more sugar into you because it makes people like it more.
