The difference is that they still included enough tactile switches for controlling basic functions, like climate control and drive select, so you can more intuitively adjust them while driving without needing to take your eyes off the road to navigate through some slow Android-ass menus. Plus god forbid the screen breaks I still have access to 90% of the functionality I need for comfortable driving with the tactile switches, unlike in these chinkmobiles where you're pretty much until you can get the manufacturer to replace the screen (and knowing the Chinese, good fucking luck).
I suspect these "futuristic" displays are really just a cost saving measure. LCD touchscreens are super overproduced and I suspect it's much cheaper for BYD and whoever to just buy surplus consumer-grade screens and hook them directly to the vehicle's computer rather than design and manufacture proper dashboard console with robust wiring, switches, potentiometers, etc.
