Often, it's their life that they're coming to the altar to save, but they're seeking life everlasting to do it. In a similar way if the principles were preserved it would lead to many more people being saved, but plenty of Christians are praying for God's truth to heal society. I don't think this makes anyone necessarily wrong in their motives, but hoping too much on the material and not the spiritual can lead to disappointment.
