prisoner's dilemma
partly it's pride/face saving as >>512521208 says but they're also trapped by legal machinery.
namely, the fact that you have to assert your rights as a nation with action under international law has hilarious consequences like those asian water cannon fights.
legally speaking, if a national leader doesn't do the correct retaliatory airstrikes then he's supposed to be replaced with one who will.

I find it heartwarming that all the countries around the world are so concerned with American citizens' wellbeing that they inform us daily about how tariffs are gonna hurt me really bad but not them at all and they're gonna put their elbows in the air or something

Same reason why gorillas pound their chest and scream before fighting. We haven't left the cave yet, and neither have our politics.

it would both be happening but also btfoing the Pauls and Massie and their childish beliefs about economics.

oh god no. no. why would i read their bill? lol. I'll take Elon's word. I love libertarians but I know they lose. they're sitting there pouting about microeconomics and Trump is building a wave to ride with post-modern qe. there is no path from here to classic fucking economics. there is a path to Trump's stated goals. as outrageous as they seem. and it would amount to an overwhelming rewrite of financial realities in a way that minimizes the impact to everybody else.

it's a kingdom model and it's not going to look like sound economics if it happens. but it would at least do some good. the economics might be sound. they might be contagious.
