However, I also know that my grandmother on my father's side came to Saint Petersburg from Ukraine, and that one of my great-grandfathers was Jewish.
Regarding the discussion about the war — almost 100% of the people around me have a very negative attitude toward the war, but I also know that my environment is quite specific for many reasons — a big city, young age, common interests, and so on. The war is mostly supported by the older generation who watch TV — and on TV there is only one continuous propaganda. My parents are also anti-war, and literally every time my grandmother visits us, they endlessly argue with my father because she strongly supports the war.
As for the European part of the country — yes, some part of Russia is definitely European, and I think this can especially be said about Saint Petersburg — its entire historic center was literally built by famous European architects who came to Russia from the West. But many regions of Russia are definitely Eastern culture, for example, Buryatia — I have heard a lot about Buryatia because my friend is from there (by the way, he is a representative of the indigenous people called "Ulta," of whom only about 200 remain in the world).
I have two grandmothers, one seems to be doing okay, but the other is on the brink of death due to alcoholism.
