Today's achievement could be tomorrow's problems, as seen with technology, because it created a wide gap between the normal population and the ruling class and whoever rules them. Native Americans didn't need anything else to keep living like they did, other tribes were at the same technological development or had a bit of an edge through numbers. Aztecs, for example, managed to build bigger and thus started warring their neighbours, but their technology wasn't far ahead of them in terms of warfare.
The europeans though, they had to develop a myriad of ways to deter others from attacking them and also to take other's land, maybe due to geographical distances being a fraction of what we have in America, cultural differences or maybe some other reasons altogether.
Being better at killing others, it could be seen as good in some people's perspective, but it can also lead to the problems we have now.
