It's a craven scare tactic, a smear, a curse. A means to falsely assume moral high ground as a way to shut down someone you don't like. It's a form of ideological oppression. You can be the most pathetic, despicable, sorry excuse for a good man imaginable but as long as someone says something bad about foreigners or makes an edgy joke, he'll be cast out while you get to be praised over him.
