My city's downtown has been ravaged by homeless for the past few years. I never find needles, but there's plenty of cannabis packaging (they seriously overpackage them. insane amounts of plastic), malt liquor cans, and fent foil are a common sight. I've worked in stores that have been almost driven out of business from shoplifting. I'm talking about a guy running in, stealing $900+ worth of products, maybe twice in a day, multiple times a week for months on end. Literally the same guy every time. Maybe he gets a few nights in jail or a court date, but he's always back out on the streets in no time. There's a homeless schizo who rants and raves outside of the post office every day and no one bats an eye. I get death threats shouted at me from 'people' through my windows monthly. All for not buying some native a sandwich.

I don't agree with killing them. Round them up and most will die from withdraw. Those that survive the lack of drugs should do labor until they are functioning blue collar workers then be re-introduced into society. The problem is so bad now because of the weak men create hard times meme, which is true. We live in a weak apathetic society, but people are starting to have enough and we’re starting to see the hard times create strong men stage come to fruition slowly but surely. A more sensible policy would be to arrest them for the crimes they do and then offer 6M rehabilitation instead of 12M prison. Get the ones that clean up into housing and commit the ones that were mentally ill on top of addicted into asylums. This would be so much cheaper than letting them run rampant.
The reason this is not happening is that politicians collude with investors to deploy the homeless intentionally to depress local real estate. Once the investors have loaded up, the police rounds up the bums and sends them to their next destination with free bus tickets. They're an economic tool of the rich.
