the irony here is that the people who narc on parents and kids are not doing so out of fear of the kids getting hurt or being kidnapped but rather out of a need to stir up drama in their lives in the form of do-good meddling. they want to help but not in a direct and personal way ( like keeping an eye on little billy for the hendersons next door) but in an indirect and eyewitness news type of way where they call the cops, the cops investigate, uncover a decades long underground child trafficking and abuse scandal, and get praise for being "vigilant and caring". neighbors would rather each other be child abusing monsters than kind loving parents who let their kids roam free to experience life and nature, because the former allows a person to be a disconnected and disassociated NPC, than a personable, neighborly, and socialable friend because THAT requires you to learn children's names, parents names, help move a sofa, or lend a cup of sugar
