The Chinese elite are demarcated between the north and south. North China is the domain of nationally oriented Chinese via Beijing. South China is the domain of internationally oriented Chinese via the coastal cities.
Within the CCP, this North-South demarcation congregates into 3 factions:
1.) The Red Princes, who are based out of Beijing and currently headed by Xi Jinping.
2.) The coastal elite, who are primarily based out of Shanghai.
3.) The Communist Youth League.
The Red Princes are the nationalist faction whereas the Shanghai clique and the CYL are fundamentally internationalist.
The internationally oriented South Chinese seek the cosmopolitan life like that of Russian oligarchs or Western liberals, and who are beholden to transnationals within the City of London and their subsidiaries in America, as to which they serve as a comprador class who profit off the back of Chinese slave labour; And once they make enough money, they hope to abandon China for greener pastures in the West. The nationally oriented North Chinese make money in much the same way; except they serve themselves above all else in the name of China.
Xi brought the latter two factions under his thumb, consolidating his reign of the Red Nobility in North China and sufficient influence over South China. Although, rumour has it that Xi has been ousted and only remains in position to save face, and that the leadership is being revised to incorporate more of the Hu Jintao legacy.
