I disagree on one point Nick makes at the end; that the NEOCONS deserted the Democratic Party under McGovern because it was opposed to the war in Vietnam. No they stuck to McGovern till he was utterly destroyed in the election which was totally mismanaged and incompetent, almost to Kamala Harris levels. The abandoned the Democrats because they had relegated themselves what seemed like perpetual defeat and quietly began their infiltration of the Republican Party which they ultimately took over. That move, like rats deserting a sinking ship inspired Reagan himself to regret the fact that the Republicans let them into the party because of their obvious MIGA agenda.
