Kodak's done.
They need $500 million to continue operations, in the mean while they're raiding the employee pension fund.

they tried to brand into all sorts of weird industries, I think they tried to copy that one japanese company that did it successfully, forgot the name, it was like something big in the 90s as well and got fucked by technology changes too. someone tell me the company goddamnit

Really? I thought Kodak was doing better since film photography is going under a bit of a revival, and I read that they had to hire more people to produce more film products like Ektachrome.

They already went bankrupt in 2012 they restructured and sold their name to makers of poor quality products like alkaline batteries that leak so now the Kodak name represents garbage to consumers.

Maybe instead of paying boomers the equivalent of $150,000 a year to unskilled laborers for 80 years wasn't great for business.

Generally after an older company goes through the grinder of technology changes, being raped by one corporate owner after another, etc., pretty much their only profitable asset is their name. That gets sold off as an asset; names like Zenith, Bell & Howell, Honeywell - look at all the cheesy consumer shit they've licensed their names to.

Jerry Yang (the Yahoo! guy) is pissed, he sank a fortune into Kodak to keep it afloat years ago.

I have some Kodak stock, what a SHIT move that was. But I'm keeping it until it hits zero.

I know but they have a good quality point-of-packaging printer. The best one going, they have plenty of commercial and industrial customers still. Government still buys film too. I figure the plan now is spin off the profitable stuff into a new brand and let Kodak keel over.

Have you ever looked into what’s involved in the K-14 process for developing Kodachrome? It’s a good read if you’re into technical things. At least I can process E-6 at home and it’s 80% as good as Kodachrome imho.

It's their own fault. They were super early on digital cameras, then tossed it out the window for film. Then they tried several more times with various cameras dumping film. Then film makes a comeback for some hipsters and they are nowhere to be found. They can't stop losing.
