>Uhhh your TAXES pay for your HEALTHCARE, ergo it's not FREE!!!!

Okay, so AU$5000 (US$3200) goes to healthcare for the full year. This covers me, this covers my family, this covers kids and the elderly and everyone else for the betterment of society.

What does your yearly insurance cost? What are your co-pays, your out of pockets, your scripts and medicines?

A private (!) health insurance (including long term care) in Germany from AXA is ~€500 per month, €6000 or AUSD 10,795 per year. FOR ONE ADULT PERSON ONLY! You pay a little less when young and even more when older than me.

This is not a problem at young age but when you get older your health problems will inevitably start and eventually become chronic. A single surgery including the stay in hospital can easily cost 50k to 100k Euros. Drugs for long term treatment can easily be several hundreds per month. With no private insurance you only get the absolute minimum not the best treatment and this can have you suffer terribly for years and years if you are unlucky enough not to die peacefully in your sleep before it becomes unbearable. There are two strategies to deal with this. Either have a private insurance or invest nearly the same amount of money every month/year in some asset that you can make liquid if need be.
