I’m 20 and about to start my bachelor’s degree.
I know it’s a little late because I had to take care of my parents’ shophouse.

parents said I should go into finance because it’s easy, most people have high GPAs, and it’s less stressful. easy to graduate
friend suggested computer science since it has a bright future and is more future-proof in an AI-driven society.
younger sibling recommended political science or international relations.

Do you think it’s worth spending 4 years on this?

i tried getting into IT 15 years ago, got a degree but i ended up hating office life in all ways and forms. Now i'm a store manager, work irregular hours and every day is different, suits me better.

if i where you i'd try to take over your parents shophouse, its a lot more fun than mundane office life

Not like it even matters since you’ve already got your 1 way ticket to the global permanent underclass regardless of what you do.

Wrong board but whatever,

> finance
Yes completely true.
> computer science
Have you read the news in the past year at all? Ffs no.
> polisci
Govt job = unemployable (in the US. No idea about Finland)

If you wanna do the STEM meme do electrical engineering or something, that's like one of the few majors left with both livable wages and demand. Otherwise finance should be good, but make sure to focus on networking instead of playing visual novels throughout college to help land internships/jobs.

You should figure out what type of job you want first, figure out what qualifications you need to get that job, then build your resume through education/experience.

Doing anything else is a waste of money

The important question. Are parents paying in? Are you prepared to dedicate every fiber of your being to making your career happen? Being a debt slave paying off tens of thousands as a papa johns employee is going to be pretty miserable if you go into this blind and uncommitted
>>513419256
Also this. 150,000 people were laid off in tech last year. If you go into computer science you're going to be competing with senior engineers who have years if not a decade plus of experience, or pajeets who will sign slave contracts for a fraction of the pay that you're willing to accept. The market for programmers is not what it was 10 years ago. Employers will not suck you off for being able to write an if statement in JS
