I work as a substitute teacher in a high school. I was subbing an english class so I rolled in a TV screen and put on different movies for each class throughout the day. I showed them Johnny 5, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and lastly, I showed them Weekend at Bernie's.

Not a single one of them laughed or cracked a smile the entire movie all day. They just stared at the screen with glazed facial expressions. The only thing that happened at the end is one of the kids remarked as dryly as possible, "That was really funny." Except he didn't laugh one time during Weekend at Bernie's.

Fellow teacher here. You did wrong, zoomers have an attention span of about 15 seconds, they can't process anything beyond a tik tok video. If you want your zoomers to be engaged in what you're showing them make a playlist of clips that last max 15 seconds each. They need their stream of information to regularly include small mental pauses of how to cook some stupid dessert, dogs falling down stairs, what is the best skin cream, etc.

Bad as zoomers are, they are at least coherent for the 15 seconds they are able to process information. I shudder at the thought of the next generation that will be raised on incoherent AI slop, they are all going to become the type of people who lived their entire lives in mental asylums in the past, drooling and banging their heads on the wall.
