Main reason is shit economy.
So many more jobs and much better pay over here in Aus.
The median full time salary in NZ is like $65kAUD, whereas in Aus it is over $90k.
Auckland rental prices are fucking expensive too. Not as bad as Sydney but probably on par with other major Aus cities like Brisbane and Perth.
So why stay in New Zealand when you can move to Brisbane or Perth and make 30% more money while having comparable living expenses?
Remember that New Zealanders do not need a visa to travel, live or work in Australia. They can literally book a flight and start applying for jobs right away.
Also a lot of NZ qualifications are recognised in Australia. If you're a tradie in New Zealand you can probably continue working in your trade in Aus without having to jump through many or even any hoops.
And yeah all the other shit like Indian influx and Moari extortion just mean that there is really no reason to grit your teeth and bare it.

Chinks and Jeets use NZ as a backdoor to australia. They gain citizenship and then come here as we have basically an open border and reciprocal welfare system. And while at any time around 10 or 20 thousand Australians might live in NZ the "population" of NZ has routinely fluctuated and has seen nearly 1/4 of their "population" living abroad, ie Australia for the last 40 or more years.
