This decrease has occured since 1990 despite audience demand.

Comedies were ranking as second genre out of all genres.

A 68,000-consumer survey said htey want more comedies. But hollywood is not delivering. Comedy films average $26.5 million production budgets and double their investment returns at 102%, yet represent just 9.3% of sequel releases compared to action's 27.6%.

The shift reflects studios prioritizing internationally marketable franchises over domestically-focused comedies, which earn most revenue from US and Canadian audiences. Indeed most comedies directly involve USA in their themes and arent applicable worldwide as funny.

Similarly Indian comedies find no audioence out of India.

Even today, old films like 1984's Beverly Hills Cop ($977 million inflation-adjusted) and Ghostbusters ($882 million) remain unmatched by contemporary releases -- with half of Letterboxd's most popular 2020s "comedies" being either non-comedic films like Saltburn or IP-driven movies like Barbie.

In the past, Society were rulled by chaos and elite used comedy as mockery mechanism to mock any "truther" in the past, in the chaos society.
With the advance of internet the comedy was used by anons as counter intelligence strategy to mock system lies, and it worked well, this is why pandemic didn't workout entirely.
Now technology and monitoring technology is already advanced for elites to monitor and control society, but they need infrastructure intact for such remote control to operate, so they will forward now to absolutism state where rules will be enforced as to maintain infrastructure so that technology can be used to control and monitor people. This is the entire opposite of the past where chaos was promoted by elite to never allow people to develop and gain insights to get out of chaos system. Now they will abolish any past strategy and will go to absolutism state and any chaotic strategy will be claimed as illegal, for this reasons they will shut down comedy, because in a totalitarian state the "leftism" is a weapon against it. I thought someone was on page but no, you're saying complete bullshit, and jewllywood didn't stop making comedy, there's several comedy tv shows ongoing and movies being made, even marvel movies are shit comedies as well. There's even adam sandler movies coming out, not to mention cartoon shit that the mainstream love. What doesn't happen is that it doesn't create as many cultural hits as before (if you rule out dumb shit such as Minecraft movie and so on), because comedy films itself became something more corny than before.
Also, back in ancient days, comedy was used on both ends, you're full of shit. There's however some shit in the performing arts dating from back in the day but you didn't hit the mark, you pointed out (wrongly) and talked about something else completely different unfortunately.
