It's not the same guy, dude. They replaced him with some guy who kind of looks like him and tried to teach him how to rap like the original but he could never quite get the accent right, so on Relapse he raps with some weird exaggerated spoof middle-eastern accent to hide the fact that he's not the real Eminem.

Then when they realized that this wasn't working out, they replaced him yet again with the current bearded guy. This one has some faggot neutral mainstream American accent whereas the first one had a very distinctive Detroit accent. They went through 3 guys at the very least, if you don't even include the original guy from Detroit who inspired the whole thing.

You can still see flashes of the old Em in some of his later records, but for the most part I think he just fully embraced the autistic wordsmith persona cause he knew he would never actually have an interesting story to tell ever again.
