I don't know a whole lot about Ukraine and what led to this conflict besides Russia invading, but whose idea was it to push the idea of Ukraine joining NATO knowing that it may possibly cause a war? I mean, from a neutral mindset, I would be worried too if a major military alliance opposed to my country was right in my back yard, up against the borders of my country.

I'm not defending Russia, btw. I believe the country is presently and historically degenerate.

Russia has always mistreated Ukraine. They had Russian leaders until very recently while being like 15% of Ukraine's population. They left it the poorest country in Europe bc they fear them. Cool. IMO what happened was that a colour revolution was staged by the US in Ukraine in 2014. Russia decided this was a threat to them (US friendly puppet government installed in Kiev) so they decided to invade the strategically very important Crimean peninsula, which was anyway inhabited 90%+ by ethnic Russians.
Then later in the early 2020s Zelenskike puppet went full retard with wanting to join NATO and Russia said "nope" and started the 2 day special operation because they considered a Ukrainian NATO membership to be an existential threat. NATO nukes on the Ukrainian Russian border would be like Cuban missile crisis 10000x. So they invaded the eastern provinces which are also like 80%+ ethnic Russian populated. The overall aim of the invasion is to annex this eastern Russian populated territories and more importantly to force Ukraine to agree to never enter NATO.
