I am not sold on the concept of living in the suburbs. I grew up in the suburbs and it was kind of shitty growing up being a teenager with no car and no money living 30-minutes-on-foot away from the nearest store. I think I would prefer a "commie block" style apartment that is walk-ably close to stores versus living in the middle of the car-dependant suburbs.

Maybe I would feel differently about the suburbs if I owned my own house (rather than living with my parents) but I don't have the fondest memories of living in suburbia.

This is pretty typical. Concrete block and overall pretty strict codes all around due to the frequency of hurricanes and tornadoes. I got my associate's degree in Florida and did house painting while I was in school and all the homes we worked on were pretty much pic related. They use molded foam for exterior trim to pretty them up, and they will use wood baseboards, door casings, and trim inside.
With no income tax, Florida has been really growing and insurance costs are pretty crazy, so not sure how far away from cities/coast you'd need to be to buy in cheap these days.
Biggest issue I had is that it's 90 degrees + and 90% humidity pretty much 9 months out of the year. It's like a reptile house and not really fit for the white man IMO.

We’re already seeing this in red states, where the concept of free market uber capitalism has caused homeowners insurance prices to double in some places. It’s gone totally insane in hurricane prone areas. “Yeah but hurricanes!” If that were a legitimate reason it would have been expensive since the concept started, not just a recent climb over the past 15 years.

Bought my house in 2020 for $660,000 at a 2.3% interest rate. Zillow estimate puts valuation at $850,000 now. Tbh we could probably get closer to $900,000 because we’re a block away from the beach and shopping.

Truth be told, we want to keep this house forever, but use it as a summer home/air bnb. Thinking about buying a second home in next 5-10 years.

I feel bad for bros who missed the boat during covid. Very sad actually.
