It's kind of wild that the common consensus is that we have evolved beyond feudalism if you really think about this. We've had rich kings and poor beggars, but kings always ruled their own - relatively small - corner of the world. Even the richest people, your Alexander the Greats and Queen Elizabeths, only really had a modicum of means available to them compare to modern oligarchs. Someone like Bezos can literally decide on anything he wants to do and do it without it even hurting his wealth. It doesn't matter if we're talking about going to space, flying off to Venezuela for a huge orgy, or having a really good hamburger.
