Having entire claim to 2028 was that he was a noble professional adult who would bring back respectability to the office. Precisely because he did not stoop to trump's level. Now he's blown it. That's gone now. All his primary opponents will wave his tweets out and say he's just like trump. The fact he's rich white male and straight will compound with this.
And it hasn't won anyone back that they lost because it's tone deaf and cringey. The people on his team do not understand toughness, masculinity, or indeed reason, honor, or goodness. When you spit and bite in defense of good things you're a hero who gets things done. Do the same for bad things and you're just an animal.
