I've already read every book written by jack vance and nothing else compares. Tons of prose is contaminated with boomer television drama manners of speaking, or stuff that sounds like a gay redditor or 14 year old wrote it. Reading books isnt a flex. You are often not learning a skill, it doesnt necessarily make you smarter or better - although it definitely is important for kids and developing minds. So reading fiction to enjoy it is no different than shitposting / playin vidya / watching TV / etc past a certain point.

I'd say it depends on the subject. If it's history, medieval battles and so on, then youtube videos can be great, when they're properly researched.
Languages - obviously it's better to socialise and use the language in the real world with all the contextual cues that come with that.
I can't explain English grammar to you, but does that actually matter when all I need the language for is to communicate?
But for most academic subjects, actually reading a good textbook is indispensible.
If we're talking fiction, then yes, it doesn't magically get good just because it's published on paper.
