a) The conflation of Marxist economic critique with insufferable cosmopolitan progressivism, which is in part the result of a deliberate effort to muddy the distinction between the two on the part of the establishment (so that they can evade responsibility for the situation they've produced in the pursuit of their class interest by blaming it all on monolithic "leftism")
b) Basically bullying people into thinking that all criticism of the rich is a projection of personal failings or feelings of inadequacy, which is reinforced by encouraging them to be similarly cruel and dismissive of people of lower station than them. If you just tell someone "you're a pussy fuck you" every time you criticize them they'll eventually catch on and tell you to go fuck yourself, but if you can put that power in THEIR hands to bully the people below them then their employment of that tactic to feel superior causes them to tacitly internalize that it's valid when someone above them uses it on them
