When it comes to food, I don’t mind if an animal’s death isn’t quick or painless. If I found out a duck breast or leg of lamb came from a farm where animals suffered before dying, I’d still buy it. Same goes for Chick-fil-A; if I learned their supplier mistreated chickens, I’d still order a #4 with lemonade (no ice).
I’m not for animal cruelty, though. Things like dog fighting or burning kittens are obviously wrong. But when it comes to food, I can overlook the bad in the process. Yes, it’s hypocritical, but I understand that providing meat for millions isn’t a clean or humane task, and I don’t think it’s fully avoidable at a reasonable cost.
I get that it’s a flawed view, but why should I care about the well-being of animals when it comes to food?
