The biggest difference you can make is switching to a safety razor rather than disposables. Double edge razor blades are cheap enough that you can use a fresh blade every shave, which makes shaving go much faster and irritates your skin way less.

I haven't used shaving cream in like a decade, i also haven't cut myself in more than that, and i shave against the grain always. I use some cheap 2€ aloe vera gel that lasts me for like half a year, good lubrication, i don't give a shit about the aloe vera properties honestly.

Haven't used aftershave in my life, i just use moisturizer after shaving.

Now I shave before showering again.
I use warm water for moisturizing with cheap shaving cream.
I shave and then hop into the shower, taking a warm shower and washing the face with soap.

shaving cream also works as a moisturizer. Better than lotion because it's not as likely to clog your pores. So smear some on your nose and forehead if you want some glow.

The only right answer to shaving are double-sided safety razors. Straight shaves are also nice, but takes more skill. Get a nice safety razor set and watch a 5 min video on jt to figure out how it works. Nice quality blades are cheap and the shaves are close. Previously I used a mach 5 and it didn't compare. I'm never going back. I've incorporated the ritual into my daily routine and there is a whole zen aspect to it.
