He's not being singled out, it's just making the news due to multiple factors:

1. He is shown, on video, making the illegal maneuver and reacting nonchalantly to the accident itself.
2. He fled instead of facing his time in court and dealing with the repercussions. If it was an "accident" then why did he not stay and deal with it, where he could explain himself?
3. Illegal immigrant, should not have had a license for a CDL to begin with, by law. If he was an H1-B, that would be different but he was not legally supposed to be in the US.
4. Killed an elderly grandma and two children, not just 3 people specifically. Killing women and children, even accidentally, is a BIG NO NO in America. Period. It will piss people off. Don't do it.
5. The maneuver itself was illegal. Very illegal, for very specific reasons. The man's driving was a textbook example of what NOT to do when driving a truck. That's not just accidental, it's criminally negligent. CDL classes literally explain NOT to do what he did.
6. The blatant pro-Indian bias towards him. The petition for leniency was over 1 million people, despite there being only around 5 million Indians in the US. That means 1 in 5 Indians think that his behavior was "tragic" but not "that bad". That's a redpill suppository for Americans, who now realize there are at least 1 million plus people we've imported who think criminal negligence is "okay".

The truck made a U‑turn using a median turnaround not meant for commercial vehicles, such medians are often for emergency or authorized vehicle use only. The maneuver obstructed multiple lanes, leaving no time for the approaching minivan to react, demonstrating the turn was unsafe.

These combined made the turn clearly illegal, negligent, and tragically fatal.

He didn't just "make a mistake", he should never have done what he did PERIOD.
