There are too many laws and too much police for anything, soon they will be monitoring what you do in your house as well (actually they already are with routers, cameras, and other devices). This is what I call "the worried mother" syndrome. And it is a very common way of establishing rule and law immediately.
Basically you put anxiety ridde cholics in leadership. And when something bad happens. When one person fucks up. You basically pass a law that prevents anyone from ever doing that ever again. These laws on the books are often worse than the unspoken/off the books "mores" (sociological term) which is able to handle gray area better. Once you talk about how much money and how much losses in profits people realize they just start to clamp down.
If they can make money off of something then it usually takes alot longer to ban it, and that usually when one of those "religious school marm" types get into office or has the leaderships ear.
The system only really started clamping down. When the public was in open revolt for like 10 years. To not expect this kind of "all encompassing escalation" in something often referred to as the "military industrial complex" was very , grossly, egregiously nieve. If conflicts end by peace agreements, accords, talks, treaties etc.... then the people need to start drafting reasonable treaties with our overlords.
Two things with that though.
1. You need to be an expert negotiator becuase they will roll out their best.
2. We have yet to prove to our overlords that they should be scared. So essentially all leverage is on their side.
