I'm a gun owner that does not chamber rounds unless something is going on, scary noises, I think something is going on outside, etc.
I never leave it chambered.
An un chambered gun can not fire.
I keep my defense guns loaded of course, just not chambered. It only takes a split second to chamber a round in anything.
Gun accidents do happen I even knew a guy that accidentally shot a round through his mattress, upsetting his wife.
I'm 43 and have never had a single accident, and I've owned firearms since I was 16.
Leaving your guns unchambered just keeps accidents from happening.
You can rack the slide if you think something might go down, or is going down I do that.
But a chambered gun is a " hot potato " and is an accident waiting to happen.

This is incorrect. If you conceal carry without a license, and you do properly use the gun in self defense, the police will almost always confiscate your gun as evidence and then not return it. So you lose your gun.
But they don't send you to prison you don't even go to jail. You just don't get your gun back.
