were americans really against war, or were they too stupid to understand how they benefit personally from the american empire? now trump explained it to them in simple terms: they are going to get the oil, and that even the biggest miga moron can understand.

The common people never benefit from an Empire. Read Dickens for example about stuff like little orphan girls standing in factory runoff to warm their feet because they couldn't afford shoes in winter. That's how the UK working classes "benefited" from "their" empire. Or Roman citizens who couldn't find work due to the excessive importation of slaves so they had to be appeased by free bread and entertainment in the coliseum. Empires benefit the elite classes at the expense of the native population.

Trump is changing politics forever for the worse by making it clear that everyone is fine with total flip flopping as long as it's for your side. People like Gavin Newsom can just start acting like he never liked woke and nobody will give a shit that he ever supported it before, thanks to this precedent

the only reason there is poverty at all in the US is because americans as a whole just don't give a fuck about the poor. you have no safety nets because you actively enjoy watching the poor get fucked. but the average american benefitted massively from the empire, how else do you think it is possible that you can buy shit made in a different country for 1/10 the price of what it would cost to make it in the US? is there a bigger privilege than that?

That sounds good in theory until you realize that Americans used to make those things in factories and receive a high wage that could buy a house and support a family on a single income. So the good jobs got removed and the only benefit is cheap consumables from China, while housing, education, healthcare etc become unobtainable. But we can buy labubus on Temu thanks to our Imperial Dollar.

yeah, some people got fucked and you don't give a fuck about each other, so you just leave them to rot. but then you have sw engs making $250k a year for doing shit that they learned in a bootcamp in 2 months.

Yeah Empires don't have any sense of "the common good" or "the nation." A province in Germany is just as "Roman" as the city of Rome from an imperial point of view. For example in 1962 the minimum wage was $1.15 and a quarter dollar was 90% silver. If you extrapolate the silver melt value to today's prices it implies a minimum wage of $34.50, and capitalists didn't complain much because that wasn't too far off from prevailing wages for an unskilled worker. Meaning basically any job back then would pay a livable wage. We lost all that for imperial "meritocracy" and "free trade" rather than national solidarity or the health of society, which are irrelevant to any Empire.
