Foreign. The day before the shooting death of conservative Utah Valley University debater Charlie Kirk, a controversial book about the act was published on Amazon, which has now been retracted. Free Times can tell you that.
A book titled “The Shooting of Charlie Kirk: A Comprehensive Account of the Utah Valley University Attack, the Aftermath, and America's Response” appeared on Amazon Kindle on September 9 – the day before the shooting took place.
The author is listed as Anastasia J. Casey, and the book promised a detailed review of the event, its consequences, and the national reaction. It shows a snapshot from the internet archive Archive.org.
The publication, which ran to only 69 pages, received online attention after the murder because it appeared to describe events that had not yet occurred when it was first published.
Amazon sets publication date September 9, 2025. The site's clock is set to Pacific time (PT), which is one hour behind Utah's time zone (MDT), but even assuming publication was at 11:59 PM PT, it is still at least 11 hours and 21 minutes before the shooting.
According to Amazon's website can publication date put forward in time, but not backwards. A retrospective change to the book's title or image can be made, but requires the change to undergo an Amazon review before appearing on the site. If you change the title, the book is reposted, as a new title, and does not retain its original publication date, according to the documentation.
Amazon has now removed the book from its platform. The company has not provided any official comment.
Free Times is looking for Amazon's US press department for comment.
