>It was drafted when there was no federal standing army.
Correct
>The idea was that state militias would be ready to defend against Spain or Indians, etc if need be.
"being necessary to the security of a free State"
Incorrect. the operative word being 'free' in this section. Armies could defend against the threats you entail, but they could never be used or trusted to keep a nation 'Free;
>The right to be armed was only in so far as you were to carry out this duty to the state.

>Shortly later the founding fathers accepted the need for a federal Navy (to protect merchant vessels), and then a standing army.
Correct. but if tha'ts the case why did the founders choose to maintain the second amendment? a time when the country was most malleable they chose to keep the language. They also used the second amendment to reaffirm an individuals right to own literal cannons.
>The 2nd amendment was never about individual rights, and wasn't extended to the whole populace (no women, no blacks, etc).
"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
Seems pretty clear the right resides with the people. Do you deny this? not with the federal government. Not with states, counties, townships, or cities. The people.
We also could make this argument and apply it to every right afforded to us by god and protected by the constitution.
>blacks never meant to have freedom of speech
>women never meant to have due process
